You’re Blowing Your Money

| Print |

You’ve given your Internet Marketing service permission to be a slacker, to play around and have fun at your expense. Yup, you most likely have. 85% of the B2B companies I have reviewed have done just that. So, chances are you have too.

For a while I was intrigued when studying various websites and advertising campaigns of B2B companies, but now it’s just frustrating to see so much money being wasted when companies are fighting to survive in an economy that isn’t floating any boats.

I’ve developed a lot of “Internet Marketing Pet Peeves” through all of this. I think one near the top of my list is this one:

Pet Peeve: Companies That Let Website Developers Make Marketing Decisions.

Can you picture the scenario? A company wants a new website, and the marketing guy/gal asks their brother-in-law who he used for his site, etc. They meet with the web developer and hand over some copy, some images, some ideas about what they’d like to see on the site, etc. Then the web guy goes off and exercises his creative liberties and builds a site he thinks does a good job of displaying his ____ skills (fill in the blank with graphic arts, JavaScript, Flash, etc.).  And sure enough, it really does look cool so you pay him the agreed amount and launch the site. The web guy adds a notch to his belt, puts a screenshot of your site up on display in his online portfolio, and starts dreaming of the next cool programming technique he wants to experiment with. (And, by the way, his portfolio doesn't link to your website, but your website links to his - proving that he knows something about SEO and assumes you don't).

And where did the web guy get those creative “liberties?”  You gave them to him.  Yup, because you didn’t nail him down with important specifics for what the website must accomplish.

Rather than just vent these frustrations I’m opening up access to this white paper to anyone. No registration and no license agreement needed. Get it here: TECb2b White PaperWhat Internet Marketers Know That You Don’t.

Applying the techniques in this whitepaper will move you from one of the 85% that are blowing their money to become one of the savvy 15% that are getting their money’s worth.
